To all the misinformed people out there peddling your miracle cures, magical supplements, and save-all diets for lupus: Thank you, no thank you. Your unsolicited advice? Keep it. We don’t want to hear about your cousin’s friend’s neighbor who supposedly cured their lupus with the magical mojo you’re pushing. As helpful as you think your cure is, I highly doubt it will rid the world of lupus.

There are numerous organizations globally dedicated to researching and finding a cure for lupus. Not a single one of them thought to just pop into Walgreens, CVS, or simply order a supplement on Amazon. And don’t even get me started on the ketogenic vegan diet—seriously? As laughable as these suggestions are to me, I don’t find them funny. Do you think, as a person with a chronic illness, that I haven’t given a cure the slightest thought?
Years of my own research and countless dollars down the drain tell me it’s not that simple. Yet here you are, irritating the hell out of me with your magical mojo. As annoyed as I am, I might even try your so-called cure out of sheer desperation. But when I spend my hard-earned money and I’m still in pain, I’ll remember that $100 mojo I bought just because it “might” work—and then it’ll join the pile of broken hopes.
Look, I believe diet and exercise can help. I love the idea of a natural cure, but it’s just not that simple. I don’t want to take all the medication I have to, but I don’t have a choice. So, save your miracle cures for someone else. I’ve got enough on my plate without adding false hope to the mix.
And to friends, family, and the random co-worker who noticed that I’m not feeling well: thanks for the concern. Instead of trying to cure me, how about just asking if I’m okay or if I need anything? Don’t try to make me feel better because, honestly, you can’t. What I truly need is your support. Just being there, offering a listening ear, or helping with everyday tasks means more than you can imagine. It’s not about finding a magical solution; it’s about understanding and empathy. Knowing that you care and are willing to support me through the tough times is invaluable. So please, offer your presence, your understanding, and your patience. That’s what will truly make a difference in my life. Please and thank you.
